The tequila bloody mary is a variance of the original bloody mary that is made with vodka. It is often underrated as the tequila and tomatoes blend in combination actually better than vodka. It is often called the bloody maria instead of the tequila bloody mary. The tequila bloody maria is just as flavorful if not more so than the vodka bloody mary. The bloody maria tang and consistency of the tequila is what compliments the spiciness and taste blends of the optional ingredients.

The history of the tequila bloody mary aka bloody maria is somewhat undecided and vague, however it is known that the vodka version of the concoction was first introduced in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The traditional version of the tequila bloody maria is very simple to compose. Here is the original recipe:

1 jigger (1/2 ounces) tequila 1/2 cup tomato juice 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice 1/8 teaspoon celery salt Worcestershire sauce, to taste Tabasco, to taste Garnish: 1 celery rib and 1 lime wedge

In a cocktail shaker, combine all ingredients with 1 1/2 cups ice cubes and shake well. Pour mixture into a tall glass. Garnish Bloody Mary with celery and lime wedge.
